A good prince gone bad. The title of the book that really caught my attention was “Arthas: Rise of The Lich King” a novel by Christie Golden. The story tells about a young crown prince that was loyal and will do anything to protect his kingdom, Lordaeron. As Arthas was preparing for months of training with Uther, the Undead finally struck his homeland with infected plagues of undeath. Uther and his paladins went to investigate the matter, hoping they could find a way to stop the plagues. Despite their hard work, the plague continued to spread and infect other villages. As a result, Prince Arthas took up a fight with the Scourge, but that too, did not stop the plague from spreading.

In order to fully stop the plague, Arthas had to sacrifice the lives of the villagers that were infected by the plague. Later, he found out where the source of plague was mainly from Northern. Instead of ending this crisis with his own power, he eventually fell for the Lich King’s soul power that is comes from a cursed blade called Frostmourne which it had called to him. Carelessly, Arthas trusted Frostmourne’s power that he thought could help his people, and sacrificed his soul and took the curse upon himself. As he progresses through the war with his new weapon, it stole his soul and transformed him into a cold-hearted Death Knight. In the end when Arthas returned to his kingdom, he killed his own father and he turned his back on his very own kingdom.

What first caught my attention to want to read this book was by playing a game called "World of Warcraft: The Frozen Throne." In fact, the game was very interesting as it is a story mode game and it summarizes the story on how this young prince fought for his homeland and how this war against the undead turned him into their leader. Whereas for the novel it shares the story in more detail. For what I feel about this story is that it’s not necessary to sacrifice everything on what you cherish the most.
